Product Care and Materials
Basic Care:
Each piece I create is designed with intention—crafted to last through thoughtful material choices and functional design. That said, like all things handmade, jewelry has its limits and deserves a little care to keep it looking its best.
To extend the life of your piece:
- Avoid exposing your jewelry to abrasive surfaces or high-impact activities, as these can cause damage over time.
- Keep your jewelry away from moisture and household chemicals—including cleaning products, perfumes, and chlorine.
- Always remove your jewelry before showering, swimming, or working with your hands for extended periods.
For cleaning, I recommend gently washing your jewelry in lukewarm water with a mild detergent to lift away natural oils, dirt, and grime. After washing, be sure to dry thoroughly with a soft cloth—lingering moisture is the main cause of corrosion or tarnishing.
With simple, mindful care, your piece will continue to age beautifully and stay with you for years to come.
Silver and Gold Jewelry:
Silver:
The silver I use in my jewelry is tarnish-resistant, unless otherwise specified (such as Sterling Silver, which is alloyed with copper). This tarnish resistance helps keep the silver looking bright white, thanks to a special tarnish-resistant casting grain that forms a clear oxide layer, rather than the typical black oxide layer found in silver alloyed with copper. This also means the jewelry is much less likely to discolor your skin.
That said, silver is still susceptible to tarnishing from sulfur, chlorine, salts, perspiration, and other chemicals. To maintain its shine, avoid exposure to household cleaners, and remove your jewelry before swimming or working with harsh substances.
If your silver does tarnish, it can be easily polished away using a silver polishing cloth. For intricate areas you can't reach with the cloth, silver cleaning solutions are available—just be sure to follow the instructions on the bottle.
Gold:
The gold I use is naturally more resistant to tarnishing and corrosion, making it much easier to care for than other metals. However, it is still recommended to avoid exposure to household cleaners and bleach to maintain its beauty over time.
With a bit of care, both your silver and gold jewelry will continue to shine and stand the test of time.
Carbon Fiber and Natural Wood Products:
Natural Wood:
Natural wood is a unique, warm, and earthy material that adds character to every piece. Because wood is organic, it requires a bit more attention to ensure its longevity:
- Avoid exposing wood jewelry to moisture—water, sweat, or humidity can cause the wood to swell or warp over time. Always remove jewelry before swimming, showering, or working with water.
- Wood can be cleaned using a soft cloth to gently remove dirt or oils. If needed, you can use a mild soap solution, but always dry thoroughly afterward.
- To maintain its natural beauty and protect the wood from drying out or cracking, consider re-oiling the piece occasionally with a natural wood oil (such as jojoba or linseed oil) to keep it nourished and conditioned.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to prevent fading or discolouration.
For rings, it’s also recommended to avoid wearing rings on adjacent fingers or stacking them, as this can help minimize abrasion and prevent unnecessary wear.
The wood used in our designs is resin stabilized, a careful and lengthy process that makes it much harder, denser, and less porous. This means it is better equipped to withstand the demands of everyday wear, without sacrificing the natural beauty of the material.
Carbon Fiber:
Carbon fiber is a lightweight and generally durable material, but is prone to scratches, chipping and general wear, but like any material, a few simple steps will help maintain its pristine look:
-
Avoid excessive pressure or impact—while carbon fiber is strong, it can still crack under excessive force.
- Avoid abrasive environments—abrasives/dirt can damage the finish.
- Avoid strong solvents—solvents can soften/dissolve the resin in the carbon fiber causing permanent damage and ruin the finish.
- To clean, gently wipe the surface with a soft cloth to remove any dirt or oils. If needed, use a mild detergent solution with lukewarm water, then dry thoroughly to avoid water spots.
By caring for these materials properly, your carbon fiber and wood jewelry will continue to look striking, functional, and uniquely yours for years to come.
